INCIDENT TYPE: Recovered Stolen Vehicle – One Suspect Arrested

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: John Sanborn 31 year old Martinez resident

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On 07/19/2012 at approximately 0433 hours, Benicia Police Officer Brian Collins made a traffic stop on a tan Honda Accord at East 2nd Street and Interstate 780 in Benicia. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the vehicle sped off. It was being driven by a male driver and there was a female passenger in the right front seat. The vehicle sped away northbound on East 2nd Street and reached speeds of 100 mph. Officer Collins pursued the vehicle and lost sight of it in the 4700 block of East 2nd Street and ended his efforts to continue pursuing the vehicle. While conducting an area check, another Benicia PD officer spotted two subjects in the area of Park Road and Industrial Way that attempted to hide behind several vehicles. These subjects were contacted in the 3300 block of Park Road and identified as the two subjects previously seen in the Honda. The female, a 20 year old resident of Antioch, took officers to the Honda that was abandoned in the parking lot of a business in the 600 block of Industrial Way. The Honda was found to be a reported stolen vehicle that was stolen from the City of Antioch on July 16th. The male (John Sanborn) was arrested for the stolen vehicle. He was found to have a “shaved” ignition key in his possession. The female was later released without being charged. The male was charged with auto theft, possession of stolen property, evading arrest, driving on a suspended drivers license, and was found to currently be on probation in Contra Costa County for vehicle theft.
Sanborn was booked into the Solano County Jail on the following charges:
