Benicia Police provide public service/crime prevention tip to owners of commercial work trucks to help prevent potential theft.

This press release is being produced as a public service and crime prevention tool to urge residents and businesses to take additional measures to secure their work/commercial vehicles, which typically contain large amounts of tools and materials.

During 2012, about one dozen work/commercial pick up trucks have been stolen from within the City of Benicia. These trucks typically contain large amounts of tools and or valuable materials. Many have utility boxes mounted to the bed of the truck. Most of these trucks belonged to electrical, contracting and other commercial businesses. A few have been owned by private parties, but had large tool boxes contained in the bed of the truck.

The trucks have been recovered in nearby cities minus the tools and or materials.

This type of crime has a significant negative impact on businesses, their customers and the private owners' of these vehicles.

There are many security devices that can be utilized to make your vehicle more secure and hopefully deter the theft of the vehicle. The Benicia Police Department does not recommend any particular type of anti-theft device or brand. We are providing crime prevention information to assist you in securing your vehicle. Devices such as steering wheel locks, brake pedal locks and devices commonly referred to as “boots” can be purchased and used to help deter the theft of these vehicles.
