Auto Burglary Arrest Press Release

Martinez, Ca – On 06/12/2017, at 2:15 p.m. Martinez Police Officers responded to a shopping center located in the 1100 block of Arnold Dr. for a report of an auto burglary that had just occurred.  The reporting party observed a male subject, later identified as Victor Hernandez, break the window of a vehicle and take a brief case containing a laptop.  The male subject then entered another vehicle in the area being driven by a female, later identified as Danielle Mowers, and that vehicle left the area.

Officers responded to Rite Aid and contacted the victim while the reporting party decided to follow the suspect vehicle without the occupants' knowledge.  The reporting party was giving periodic updates to MPD Dispatch while safely following the vehicle on the highway.  MPD officers were able to stop the vehicle on the westbound HWY 80 off ramp for Pinole Valley Road without incident and detain the vehicle’s occupants.

The initial stages of this investigation led to both suspects being arrested.  Hernandez was arrested for Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and a Felony Probation Violation.   Mowers was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Stolen Property, Identity Theft, and a Felony Probation Violation.

This is a good reminder to either take your valuables with you when you leave your car, or hide them in your vehicle so your items are not targeted by thieves looking into car windows for things to steal. This is also another case of MPD working with an alert community member who immediately contacted the police department to report suspicious activity. Remember, if you see something suspicious; please contact MPD dispatch either by calling the main dispatch line at (925)372-3440, or 911 if you think it is an emergency.
