Excessive Heat Warning until 08:00PM Tuesday

...Hot temperatures this weekend and through early next week over interior northern California... .High temperatures will near the century mark today in the Valley with even hotter temperatures expected over the weekend and into early next week. This extended heat event will increase heat related illnesses for those exposed to prolonged outdoor heat, especially the elderly, children, and other sensitive groups. The heat is expected to gradually subside later next week. ...HEAT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON SATURDAY TO NOON PDT SUNDAY... ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON SUNDAY TO 8 PM PDT TUESDAY... The National Weather Service in Sacramento has now issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which is in effect from noon Sunday to 8 PM PDT Tuesday.

* TEMPERATURE...Valley high temperatures near 100 today, 100 to 105 Saturday then 105 to 110 degrees over the weekend and through Tuesday. Overnight lows in the 60s and 70s over the weekend warming mostly into the 70s early next week.

* IMPACTS...Long outdoor exposure will increase chances for heat related illness, especially for sensitive groups and people without access to AC. Heat stress to livestock with limited relief from heat overnight. Area waterways running very cold and fast, increasing risk for hypothermia and water rescues. Instructions:

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. Very hot temperatures can create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
