Two people arrested after a Vehicle Pursuit.

On Monday, June 26, 2017, at about 11:58 A.M., Fairfield Police Dispatch received a call of two suspicious people acting erratically inside a Ford truck in a parking lot in the 1300 block of North Texas Street.  The caller told dispatch the driver appeared to be under the influence and unsafe to drive a vehicle.  The truck drove away, over the sidewalk, before officers arrived.

Fairfield Police officers quickly located the vehicle stopped in the roadway on Texas St at Jackson St.  An officer approached the vehicle and told the driver to turn off the vehicle.  The driver refused and drove west on Texas St.  The truck stopped again in the roadway on Texas St, at Madison.  As the officers pulled up to the truck, the driver put the truck into reverse and struck the front of the officer’s patrol car.  The driver then pulled the truck forward and again reversed into the patrol car.  The driver then accelerated the truck in reverse against the patrol car to the point where the truck's tires lost traction and began to spin and smoke.

The truck then accelerated forward and fled west on Texas Street.  The truck turned south onto Pennsylvania Ave. and continued toward HWY 12.  The truck failed to stop at the red signal light at Pennsylvania’s intersection with Woolner Ave. and collided with a City of Fairfield Public Works vehicle.  The driver of that vehicle suffered moderate injuries as a result of the collision.  The truck continued south on Pennsylvania Ave, crossed HWY 12, and continued to flee south.  Once across HWY 12, the truck collided with a patrol car causing moderate injuries to a Fairfield Police Officer.

After the collision, the truck drove north on Pennsylvania Ave and stopped at the intersection with HWY 12.  Fairfield Officers were able to quickly remove the driver from the vehicle, and after a struggle placed her into custody.  The passenger in the truck refused to comply with the officers, and after a struggle was also taken into custody.

The driver, Veronica Byrne, a 30-year-old San Francisco resident, was booked into the Solano County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, Felony Hit and Run, Felony DUI, Felony Evading an Officer, and Resisting Arrest.  The passenger, Carlos Gomez Jr., a 42-year-old Vacaville Resident, was booked into the Solano County Jail for being Under the Influence and Resisting Arresting.

Both the driver of the Public Works vehicle and the Police Officer involved in the collisions were transported to Northbay Medical Center where they were treated and released.

There is no further information or booking photos of the suspects available at this time.
