Class of 2017 Graduates from the Solano County Cadet Academy...

2017 Solano County Cadet Academy Class Graduates!!!

On Tuesday evening, Police Cadets and Explorers from law enforcement agencies across Solano and Contra Costa Counties completed the 2017 Solano County Cadet Academy hosted by the Fairfield Police Department at the Art Koch Range & Training Facility.

This years' Cadet Academy was a four-day, 24/7 event in which teens ages 14-20 years-old were tested and exposed to experiences and training that they had never faced before. Some Cadets had never spent time away from home or their families before attending the Academy this year. Those same teens learned that they bear responsibility for themselves, and must at the same time watch out for their partner and teammates. They participated in physical exercise that many of them never imagined they would, at least not voluntarily... In the end, every one of the Cadets and Explorers did volunteer, and finished every exercise!!! They also learned new skills and have a much better idea what a career in law enforcement might feel like for them.

Having completed the Academy, 40 Police Cadets and Explorers participated in the 2017 Solano County Cadet Academy graduation ceremony at the Kroc Center in Suisun City Tuesday evening.

The ceremony began with a formal inspection of the Cadet Squadron by law enforcement dignitaries Chief Randy J. Fenn from Fairfield PD, Under Sheriff Gary Elliott Jr. from the Solano Sheriff's Dept., Chief John Carli from Vacaville PD, Chief Robert Thompson from Dixon PD, Commander Andrew White from Suisun PD, Captain Morefield from Antioch PD, and Officer MarJonne Roberson from Benicia PD.

The ceremony keynote speaker was recently appointed Fairfield Police Department Chief of Police Randy J. Fenn. Following Chief Fenn were words of wisdom from the other law enforcement dignitaries. Each passed on their own view about the importance not only of Police Cadet and Explorer programs on the future of law enforcement, but also the formative experiences they and people they know had with Cadet Academy's, and how those experiences will shape the lives and careers of our current Academy graduates.

Having completed the Cadet Academy, many of the graduates reflected on the change of perspective they experienced from day 1 to the last day. They are more confident that they can overcome challenges, they are energized about their futures, and many of them now have a solid plan for their future.

Five Explorers from the Fairfield Police Explorer Program (two young women and three young men) graduated from the Cadet Academy. Earning an award for "Most Athletic Female Cadet/Explorer" was Fairfield Police Explorer Valentina Bingley.
