Fairfield Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision

The Fairfield Police Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Friday, September 29, 2017, at the intersection of Air Base Parkway and Dover Avenue.  Dispatchers received reports of the collision at 9:10 pm.  Officers arrived and learned a motorcyclist was traveling east on Air Base Parkway approaching the intersection of Dover Avenue.  As the motorcycle entered the intersection, the driver of an orange Saturn SUV coming from the opposite direction turned in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle hit the SUV, ejecting the rider.  First responders rendered first aid to the rider but unfortunately he succumbed to the major injuries he sustained and was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.  The driver of the SUV was uninjured and a passenger sustained minor injuries.

Investigators from the Fairfield Police Traffic Unit responded to the scene and began their investigation.  The intersection was closed to traffic until approximately 2am.  Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.  Upon completion of the investigation the findings will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office if any criminal violations contributed to the collision.

The rider of the motorcycle is identified as 29 year old Vacaville resident Gregory Sanford.  The driver of the SUV was a 17 year old Vacaville resident.
